As a previous student of the House of Creative Learning, Michele Akers is returning to pass on the skills and knowledge she has gathered over her lifetime since beginning formal lessons at the age of 15.
Michele and her partner Ken Eagle, have been performing as an acoustic duo since 2014 and have travelled around South Australia performing in gardens and wineries, pubs and bistros, outback dining halls, private properties, even at a Christening in a Church.
All this performing has been a lesson in growth as one can imagine, getting on stage is harrowing, and stepping off stage after is such an amazing experience and accomplishment. That’s what Michele would like you to experience, if that is what you are looking for.
If you prefer the quiet comfort of singing in the shower, or for a once off special occasion, Michele can guide you through the skills required to sing comfortably, breathe well, express yourself and just have a good time doing it.
“I was encouraged by my partner along with a current student to start teaching singing. It took a little coaxing but the main core of my decision was that I needed to keep my own “chops up” when my vocal teacher left Port Lincoln. So, then it was born, a room of my own, my own style of teaching, learning from students and my own teachers put me in good stead”.
Michele likes to work with each student as an individual, exploring their personality and offering tuition to suit their needs. If performance is the focus, there is an opportunity to perform at “The Sloop Sessions” which is an open mic style performance event held approximately every 3 months in Coffin Bay.
If you are not sure about performing but still want to learn more about singing, she can help you with techniques and offer a place where you are safe to just enjoy singing if that is your desire.
Michele has access to a wealth of information being a member of the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS), and she regularly attends lessons with her mentor from ANATS.
